Outbid Emails and Watching Lots

When you are emailed, when you are not, and the Watch star.

Steps: Watch a Lot

  1. Press the star on any lot.
  2. Find it under Watchlist in the menu behind your picture, or Watching on your bids page, or the Watching filter on the auction page. Press the star again to stop.

Outbid Emails

You are emailed when someone else beats your maximum. You are Not emailed when:

  • you raise your own maximum
  • someone bids but your existing maximum still has you in front
  • the same lot outbids you several times in a couple of minutes; those are grouped into one email

The email links straight to the lot so you can bid again.

Outbid Texts

You can be texted when you are outbid as well as emailed. On Your phone in your account (the phone tab), once your mobile number is confirmed, tick Text me when I am outbid and save. The text names the auction house, the lot, the new price and the least you can bid, with a link to the lot. Like the email, it is at most one per lot every couple of minutes, so a busy last minute is one text, not ten. Untick the box to stop them; the email and the bell carry on. The box only appears once a number is confirmed, and texts are sent only while the platform can deliver them — until then your choice is kept and takes effect when they are switched on.

Won and Lost

When a lot closes and you won it, you get an email with the price, premium, tax and total. Your invoice for the auction follows once the whole auction has closed.

Watching

The star on a lot bookmarks it. Watched lots have their own page, Watchlist, in the menu behind your picture (open lots first, with their clocks), and also appear under Watching on your bids page and can be filtered on the auction page. Watching is only a bookmark: it does not bid, and you can remove it any time by pressing the star again.

Every lot shows how many people are watching it — on the lot page next to the bid count and on the auction page's cards, once anyone is. It is a count only; nobody can see who. Sort an auction by Most watched to see where the interest is.
