"Why Is This Locked?" After an Account Recovery

After you get back into your account through a recovery, a few settings stay frozen for a while so that whoever got in cannot cut the real owner off. What is frozen, what still works, and how the lock ends.

If you got back into your account through a recovery (a code to your phone, your recovery codes, a trusted contact, an ID check, or a support ticket), some settings are locked for a while afterwards. The page tells you until when.

Why

If it was really you, the lock costs you nothing. If it was someone else who got in, the lock stops them changing where your money goes or locking you out for good, and every alert keeps reaching you, so you have time to press This Wasn't Me.

What Is Frozen

  • Changing the payout bank account.
  • Contact details: name, address, email, phones.
  • Ways to sign in: adding or removing a passkey, an authenticator app or a security key, new recovery codes.
  • Who is on the team (for auction houses): inviting, changing roles, removing, resetting someone's sign-in.
  • Downloading personal data: bidder, consignor and invoice files.
  • Publishing an auction (for auction houses), including an owner approving a staff member's auction. Staging one, cataloguing lots and setting its schedule all still work.

What Still Works

Everything else. Auctions already published keep running and closing, invoices go out, payouts go to the bank account that was on file before the lock, bidding, watching, questions, pickup and shipping.

How It Ends

  • By itself, at the time shown. Most locks are 7 days; a text-code rescue is 24 hours.
  • Unlock Early (auction house owners and staff): three checks within 30 minutes, all of them: a fresh ID check, a code to the house's confirmed business phone, and another administrator of the house or your trusted contact approving it from their own account.
  • Support, if none of that is possible. Support can lift a lock after checking with you; support can never turn off a second factor.
