Your Data Choices: The Data Policy and Analytics
What you agree to when you register, the one optional choice (analytics), what it turns on, and where to change it.
Every account, whether you bid, run a house, or were invited as staff or a consignor, makes two choices when it is created.
The Data Policy (Required)
Together with the terms of use, you agree to the data policy. It says what the platform keeps about you, why, who sees it, how long, and how to ask for a copy or for deletion. The date and version you agreed to are kept on your account, under Data and Privacy.
Analytics (Optional)
One tick box, off unless you tick it. Under it, Learn more about analytics opens the whole story in place, without leaving the form: what ticking it turns on, where it goes, and who reads it. Saying yes means two things:
- The platform may learn from how you use the site: which pages, on what kind of device, how long things take. That is used to improve the site, never for advertising, and never sold. Today none of this is collected yet; if that changes, the Learn more panel and the data policy will say so first.
- Automatic problem reports are turned on. When a page fails for you, a ticket is opened with the platform's engineers by itself, so it can be fixed without you having to explain it. It holds the page address (never anything after a "?"), the kind of error, the time, a reference number and your browser type. Never what you typed, your password or your card.
Where It Goes
A problem report goes into Crossroad Sellers' own support system, on the platform's own servers. Only the platform's support staff read it; the auction house never sees it. It is never sold, never shared with another company and never used for advertising. You can read it and reply to it under Help, My Tickets.
Saying no means neither happens. Errors are still reported to the platform's monitoring in a form with no personal details in it, whatever you choose, as the data policy explains.
Changing Your Mind
Your account, Privacy and Data. One switch turns analytics on or off. Off also turns off automatic problem reports; on turns them back on. You can also turn only the reports off under My tickets and keep analytics on.
If you turn analytics off you can still report a problem yourself from Help.
Your Date of Birth
Auctions are for adults, so every account gives a date of birth and must be 18 or older. If you registered before we started asking, we ask once, at your next sign-in, before you go on.
Your date of birth is private: only you and the platform's own staff can ever see it — never an auction house. It is never shown to the house you bid at, never put in a link or an email, and never in our error logs. You can see it yourself under Your account → Data and Privacy.
Cookies
The site uses cookies only where it needs them to work: to keep you signed in, to carry you through signing in, to protect forms, and, if you ask, to remember a browser for 30 days so it skips the second check. No advertising or tracking cookies. The full list of who sees what, and for how long it is kept, is in the data policy.
